THE INFLUENCE OF CONTEMPORARY ETHNO-PSYCHOLOGICAL PROCESSES ON INTERETHNIC RELATIONS: PROBLEMS AND MODERN APPROACHES

Abstract

Contemporary interethnic relations are increasingly influenced by complex ethno-psychological processes associated with globalization, migration, cultural transformation, digital communication, and the intensification of social mobility. Ethno-psychological processes encompass collective perceptions, ethnic identity, social stereotypes, attitudes toward other ethnic groups, collective memory, values, and mechanisms of intergroup interaction. These factors can contribute either to social integration and mutual understanding or to prejudice, discrimination, social distancing, and interethnic tension. This article examines the principal contemporary ethno-psychological processes affecting interethnic relations and identifies the psychological and social mechanisms through which they shape communication between ethnic communities. Particular attention is paid to the transformation of ethnic identity under conditions of globalization, the role of social stereotypes and prejudice, the influence of migration, and the impact of digital media on intergroup perceptions. The article argues that sustainable interethnic relations require not only institutional mechanisms but also the development of intercultural competence, inclusive identities, critical media literacy, and psychologically informed approaches to conflict prevention. The study contributes to a broader understanding of how psychological processes operating at individual, group, and societal levels influence the stability of multicultural societies.
