Abstract

This article examines the stages in the formation and development of terminology studies from historical, theoretical, and methodological perspectives. Beginning with the principles of traditional prescriptive terminology, the paper explores the scientific foundations of cognitive and communicative approaches that emerged in the late twentieth and early twenty-first centuries. Conceptual, discursive, and pragmatic interpretations of the notion of “term” are comparatively analyzed. The study employs systematic analysis of scholarly literature, content analysis, and comparative research methods.
