Abstract

This article examines the morphological structure and word-formation patterns of fisheries-related terminology in the English language. Fisheries terminology represents a specialized lexical subsystem that reflects the scientific, technological, economic, and environmental aspects of fishing, aquaculture, fish processing, and aquatic resource management. The study focuses on the morphological composition of fisheries-related terms, including simple words, derived forms, compounds, and abbreviated expressions. Particular attention is paid to productive derivational suffixes and prefixes, compound nouns, conversion, and inflectional morphology. Examples such as fisherman, fishery, aquaculture, fish farming, overfishing, fishery management, and stock assessment are analyzed to demonstrate how morphological structures contribute to the formation and interpretation of specialized terminology. The article argues that morphological analysis is essential for understanding the internal organization of fisheries vocabulary, improving terminology standardization, and supporting the teaching and translation of English for Specific Purposes (ESP).
