Abstract

This article examines the pragmatic and discursive functions of humor and irony in English and Uzbek languages. It analyzes how these linguistic phenomena operate in communication to achieve various social, emotional, and interactional goals. The study highlights that humor and irony are not merely stylistic devices, but complex pragmatic tools that reflect cultural values, communicative intentions, and discourse strategies. The comparative analysis reveals both universal and culture-specific features in the use of humor and irony across the two languages.
